Strong aluminium foil bags & pouches with excellent gas and liquid barrier properties made to food contact standards protecting high risk products in high risk sectors such as API plants, together with other sectors.
Barrier Foil Laminate, Bag, Pouches and Liners
PRODUCT
Many different products require barrier foil packaging, either to protect them from moisture or prevent the escape or inflow of fluids, gases or odours. Whatever the application, there is a suitable laminate which we can be offered in bag form.
These products are used across several sectors, from the packaging of medical products, high value lab products, tobacco products, machinery in transit - basically any goods needing a high oxygen and liquid barrier.
We primarily use a TFL2 laminate which acts as a good water and oxygen moisture barrier material. It is a 5 layer product consisting of 3 materials (polyester, aluminium, polythene) bonded together using 2 adhesive layers. It creates a stiff barrier material at 400 Gauge (98mu) thickness.
Other laminates are listed which provide slightly different properties or may simply have a different contact layer.
The internal layer which will come into contact with the product being packaged, is a food contact grade, high density polythene.
PROCESS AND PROPERTIES
The product is made by first overlapping 2 sheets of laminate, then welding the 2 sheets together with a sealing head in the shape/size of the bag/pouch, which removes/cuts the bag/pouch out of the sheet as part of the process. This bag/pouch usually has an 8mm deep weld on the 3 sealed sides. Customers must remember that when measuring a bag/pouch and quoting the external dimensions, they will lose 8mm of depth around the 3 sides reflecting the width of the seal, thus creating a narrower internal dimension. Please take this into account so that the internal dimension will fit your product.
The barrier pouch products are not made in a continuous process as master laminate rolls are used which have been pre-manufactured to our approved specification. This means we can work with low minimum order quantities (unlike our pure polythene products which are made in a continuous process). The laminates can be welded either by hand or on slower pouch machines which can be stopped and started.
Bags are available to order in any size from imperial dimension 3” x 3” to 48” x 48” and metric dimension from 75mm x 75mm to 1200mm x 1200mm. The thickness will be 400 Gauge (98mu).
